Salik: the current rates

Salik is Dubai's automatic toll system. Since variable pricing was introduced, a crossing costs AED 6.30 at peak (06:00–10:00 and 16:00–20:00 on working days) and AED 4.20 off-peak, with crossings between 01:00 and 06:00 free and Sundays charged at the flat off-peak rate — figures that include the 5% VAT added to tolls from June 2026. Rental companies pass these crossings through to you, and many add a small per-crossing admin fee, which should be stated in your rental agreement.

Traffic fines: why they show up late

Fines issued during your rental — speeding, parking, bus-lane cameras — are recorded against the vehicle and can take two to three weeks to reach the rental company's account. The company then settles the fine and deducts it from your deposit, usually with its own handling fee on top.
